Walking Tall in Country Music
Joe Don Baker
I have been referred to as the “High Sheriff of Country Music” with the namesake of the actor, Joe Don Baker, who played Buford Pusser in the 1973 movie “Walking Tall”

I listened to country music on the radio as a young kid and the first songs I remember hearing was Dolly Parton’s “Here You Come Again” and Kenny Roger’s “Daytime Friends” which dates back to 1977.
My introduction to radio, since 1986, started in Fayetteville/Fort Bragg, NC where I grew up. The station that gave me my start was WFAI with a “Music of Your Life” nostalgia format. From, there I worked at WKML in country music.

It all came back to country music in Logan, Utah and then back home to Burlington, NC at WPCM “Country 101.” It was there that “Sunday Night Gold” was launched and later in Greensboro at Country 94.5 became “Classic Country Saturday Night”

I am a real estate agent for Keller Williams Realty which sponsors my show. In addition, my love for performing extends to the stage in local community theatre productions.

I soak up knowledge of most genres of music, and mostly classic country. You definitely want me on your team in a game of music trivia. First concert ever attended was seeing Wayne Newton in Raleigh in 1985. Since then, I have enjoyed numerous concerts too many to recall and have met some of the biggest names in country music from George Jones, Charlie Daniels, Loretta Lynn, Willie Nelson, and so many others.

I am married to a wonderful wife, Bethany, and have an amazing son, Austin. Both of whom are also huge country music fans. It’s in our DNA.
